Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were recently named Best Celebrity Couple of 2011, beating out such illustrious competition as Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and last but far from least, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. Of course, the Twilight Saga lovebirds are one of most popular and best known couples on earth. Their every move is scrutinized; their words and gestures are analyzed; and their fans fret over their many work related separations. R-Pattz and K-Stew are definitely hot. But, did they deserve the title of Celebrity Couple of 2011?
According to the folks at Hollywood Life who chose Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart as the definitive 2011 celebrity couple, the answer is a resounding "yes." The site praised Rob and Kristen's "low-key, yet strong relationship," as well as the way "the two support each other on and off the red carpet, [and] their insane chemistry on screen -- and off."
All that's true of course, but when Hollywood Life put the question: "Who was your favorite celeb couple of 2011?", the public had a startlingly different opinion. The gorgeous and charismatic Breaking Dawn lovers came in second after garnering only 21.33 percent of the votes. At least they beat out Miley Cyrus and her Hunger Games boyfriend who came in third with 20.79 percent. Astonishingly, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez straggled behind with a pathetic 1.47 percent. Placing even more embarrassingly were Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, Beyoncé and Jay Z, and Khloe and Lamar Odom. So who won? If you bet on Brangelina, you're now broke. The most famous couple in the world got only 0.15 percent of the votes. It looks like fame isn't everything.
The undisputed winner with a whopping 55.88 percent of the votes was the Vampire Diariescouple, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, who are, like R-Pattz an K-Stew, real life lovers as well. Interestingly, Hollywood Life had little to say about Dobrev and Somerhalder except that they're "based in Atlanta, Georgia, but every time they come to Hollywood, they make a huge splash."
Oh well, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. Perhaps Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart did so poorly in the polls because Twilight is ending, but the public is still obsessed with vampires. Or not.
What do you think?
