Vampire Diaries Synopsis for Season 3, Episode 12, “The Ties That Bind”

Thanks to Zap2It’s@cadlymack, we got our excited little mitts on the official synopsis for The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 12, “The Ties That Bind” — and this time, Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) familial affairs take center stage.


Apparently the resident witchy woman is convinced her recurring dreams about Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) coffins contain clues as to how the crew can kill him off. Bonnie’s dreams also point her in the direction of her estranged mother Abby (Persia White) whom she is reunited with — after 15 years! — at a “remote farmhouse.” Creepy? Just a bit.


But Abby Bennet isn’t the only fresh face Bonnie and gal pal Elena (Nina Dobrev) run into during their trekk into America’s backwoods. The girls also meet a man named Jamie, someone Mrs. Bennett took under her wing years prior. While Abby’s shocked to see her daughter, she makes a concerted effort to explain her painful absence for, you know, the last decade a half.


Bonnie isn’t the only one trying to figure out where her allegiances lie this episode. Tyler (Michael Trevino) is also grappling with some identity issues — mainly, how to regain his free will after being sired by Klaus — and turns to an “unexpected ally.” Meanwhile, Alaric’s new lady friend Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey DeVitto) catches the eye of his old buddy Damon(Ian Somerhalder), and Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Klaus continue to battle it out over those coffins containing the Original Vampire family’s remains.

Bonnie (Kat Graham) believes her recurring dreams about Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) coffins will tell her how he can be killed. The dreams also lead Bonnie to a reunion with her mother, Abby (guest star Persia White, “Girlfriends”), whom Bonnie hasn’t seen for 15 years. At Abby’s remote farmhouse, Bonnie and Elena (Nina Dobrev) meet Jamie (guest star Robert Ri’chard, “One on One”), the young man Abby took in years earlier. Bonnie’s sudden appearance catches Abby off-guard, but she does her best to explain the past. Tyler (Michael Trevino) turns to an unexpected ally in his quest to regain his free will. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is intrigued by Alaric’s (Matt Davis) new friend, Dr. Fell (guest star Torrey Devitto), and Klaus continues his bitter negotiations with Stefan (Paul Wesley) over control of the coffins containing his family members.
