5 Things We Want to See When Season 3 of The Vampire Diaries Returns

Do you hear those sleigh bells ringing and smell the cinnamon and nutmeg in the air? Sure signs it’s Christmas, but also, that The Vampire Diaries is due back in a couple of weeks. The hiatus is soon over! So what are we wishing for when we return to Mystic Falls? So many things — but here are our top 5.

Pop those coffins
We’re eager to meet the last of the Original siblings, Kol and Finn, and we’re also dying to know what’s inside the other coffins. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) had more caskets than dead brothers and executive producer Julie Plec promises we’ll find out why there are so many extraneous ones. Are they awaiting Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), Caroline (Candice Accola), or Matt (Zach Roerig)? Did Klaus find a way to conjure zombies? Is he going to open a funeral home? (He’ll do great business in Mystic Falls.)

Bonnie’s back story
Why should the vampires get all the flashbacks? We have no idea where Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) mother, Abby, has been but we’d love to see her story told via ‘90s-era scenes when Jeremy’s emo music taste would’ve actually been appreciated. Okay, we can throw some vamps in there — grungy Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), anyone?

Delena moments
Even if your ‘shipper heart belongs to Stelena, you have to admit it will be interesting to see how Damon and Elena (Nina Dobrev) deal with each other now that she’s let go of Stefan. We know the tension is going to be hot, but we don’t know if it will involve one of the naked scenes Ian Somerhalder has been tweeting about.

The original doppelganger
We really hoped we’d meet Katherine (Nina Dobrev) and Elena’s doppelganger in the 1,000-year flashback episode, but we continue to wait sort-of patiently for that day to arrive. How did the doppelganger come to be? Were Klaus and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) initially in love with her? Was there a different set of brothers who warred over her? Can Nina Dobrev maintain her sanity playing three different characters?

Elijah, undaggered
Really, this requires no explanation. The hair, the beautiful, beautiful hair. We miss it so.
