When The Vampire Diaries returns on January 5, we’ll notice some differences in Mystic Falls — and it has nothing to do with a coffin-hidingStefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Julie Plec spoke with Zap2It about what we can expect now that Tyler (Michael Trevino) isn’t reigning in his hybrid ways for Caroline (Candice Accola) any longer.
"He's got Klaus whispering in his ear saying 'I need you to do this for me. You need to 'serve your master,'" says Plec. "Tyler is in a very, very bad situation that almost has catastrophic consequences. It's going to take him a while to earn his way back into the good graces of our heroes, his friends, and Caroline.” What the hybrid has Tyler been getting himself into? Could he be in on the threats Klaus has been making to Elena (Nina Dobrev) and co.?
Meanwhile, Bonnie (Kat Graham) is involved in schemes as well. Evidently she’s been assisting Stefan with keeping Klaus’ dead relatives in a secret location, and it’s taking a toll on the witch. Luckily, her mother, Abby (Persia White), arrives in Mystic Falls to help out the daughter she left years ago. “Bonnie needs a touchstone that is disconnected from this vampire life,” Plec says. “She finds that in the mother who, as we'll learn, abandoned her a long, long time ago — and abandoned being a witch, too.” Oh, is that confirmation that Bonnie gets her magic from her mama? January 5 can’t get here soon enough!
