Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev Defend the Name Damon

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are defending the name Damon. Vampire Diaries fans know that Ian portrays a character named Damon on the hit show, but recent news have the actors on the defense.

According to reports, a French couple named their son Damon, after Ian Somerhalder's Vampire Diaries character, but were taken to court because the government felt that the name had Satanic ties.

However, Somerhalder, and his co-star/real-life girlfriend, Nina Dobrev have taken to Twitter to defend the name. "Nothing wrong with the name Damon. It's done great things for me," Iantweeted along with a link to an article about the baby.

"In France people get prosecuted for naming their kid after Damon, and yet here "Blue Ivy" and "Apple" are a big hit," Dobrev wrote. It is interesting to see how different culture interpret names. However, it's now being reported that the baby will get to keep his name. (Thank goodness!)
